In Love with a Raven by *Wandio:iconWandio:

I saw him.
He saw me.

He looked towards me
cocked his head to the side
curious.

Big pink bird?
He has strange feathers,
that don't cover his head
his hands.
Strange clawless feet?

He thinks.

I step towards him.

He's startled.
He skips away.

So I skip towards him.

He skips away and flutters his wings.

I flap my arms and skip towards him.

He waddles away.

For a moment
We look at each other.

I feel myself shrink
in my soul.
My clothing falls away.
My skin bursts into feathers.

I feel my face elongate into a black
ebony beak.
Light dances off the black obsidian feathers.

We stare at each other.

We call to eachother

ka-caw!
ka-caw!

We skip along the green grass
Beat our powerful wings.

Our claws lift from the ground as we catch a hot thermal
our wings billowing from the stiff blast of warm wind.

The sun glints
off our glittering feathers.

Ka-caw!
Ka-caw!

We call
weaving against the rays of
hot
orange and red
sunset light.

The clouds
billow past
bringing the humid tinge
of sweet fresh steam
pouring
into our nostrils.

Ka-caw!
Ka-caw!

Briefly
he glances at me
our rich
wet eyes peering at one another.

But his gaze does not linger
do not want to sacrifice windspeed.

Then, I settle back down to the green grass,
circling
spiraling down the warm thermal slowly.

My talons lightly rest on the ground.

He still circles over head.

Ka-caw!
Ka-caw!

I grow taller
my feathers give way to skin
I replace my clothing.

The reverie ends.

He lands.

I flap my arms and skip towards him.

He waddles away.

"My mother used to say to me, 'Elwood, in this world you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant.' For years, I was smart, but I would recommend pleasant. You may quote me."

While I recognize the necessity for a basis of observed reality - true art lies in a reality that is felt.

Was this in any way, shape, or form Edgar Allen Poe inspired? Nonethless, this poem caught my eye and I feel it is very interesting. I like the line:

"My skin bursts into feathers." Almost like POP and into the feather form you go! It's genius in its own unique way too!

Faved!

"Hell belongs in a book
Where the setting is doused with flowers
Upon a field, accompanied by butterflies,
As some random man screams,
“Today’s weather is 50 degrees
With a 101% chance of cloudy skies,
Just to irk the Hell out of it!" -SIRyan-

Now that you mention it, I only just made the Poe connection. It's actually based off a couple experiences I had with the family of ravens that lives at Fort Edmonton.
